Stories from Congo

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, a country that has been plagued by civil #conflict and #war for decades, studies find that up to 40% of women have experienced #sexualviolence in their lifetime.

I love meeting people in the #DRC, but am often left #heartbroken by the stories that I hear. It is hard to imagine living with a constant, underlying fear, not only for your own safety, but for everyone around you. The instability means at any time your situation can go from normal life to #nightmare with very little you can do about it.

I have had the privilege to hear the stories and photograph the people involved with different organisations (@focuscongo, #LaissezL’AfriqueVivre and @womenforwomen, @kitoko_oyo) that are doing amazing work as they help bring #change, #hope and a #future to the people of the #DRCongo.
