The Future of the Congo

“Children are one third of our population and all of our future.” These kids in the DR Congo are the future of the nation. There is such beauty and strength in these children, the way they live, play, work and love. They are inherently optimistic and full of hope for their own future and for their friends around them.

I remember taking this photo, it was my first trip to the DRC with @pappyorion and @focuscongo. We were visiting a rehabilitation centre in a village a few hours out of Bukavu. As we direct time talking with people, recording interviewed as taking pictures, this group of kids had been quietly following us from a distance, curious as to who we were and why we were in their small village. As they got bolder and more used to us, they started posing together for photos. I loved their smiling faces, the textures of their clothes, the overgrown background, and the way they interacted with each other. Such a beautiful group of kids!
